THE MEADOWS
BAY AREA, CA
This meadow garden is composed of over 30 species of flowering perennials, organized into drifts according to color with dominant purples and blues assembled next to bright yellows, soft pinks, and oranges set within a matrix of grasses.
Swaths of a singular species of structural grasses, Calamagrostis x acutiflora 'Karl Foerster' (Feather Reed Grass), flow in bands across the meadow, over small mounds, bending along the pathways and between groups of flowering perennials. The meadow stretches west, capturing the late afternoon light.
At the approach to the property, we seeded the landscape with a selection of native wildflowers and grasses. Clarkia elegans seen below in full bloom under a row of Pistacia chinensis (Chinese Pistache).
