GREEN GARDEN
BAY AREA, CA
This garden was designed shortly after the 2019 movie "Parasite" was released and, true to its name, was inspired (loosely) by the verdant green landscape set outside the home in the Korean thriller.
In the Green Garden, a strip of lawn, to be used by young kids and dogs, unfolds to a lush, evergreen backdrop of Prunus carolinana (Carolina Laurel). Pittosporum and lonicera are nestled at the base of the hedge along with grasses and boulders. As the shrubs mature, they will be shaped into mounding, spherical topiary.
Planting from the green garden bleeds into the entryway. A procession of white lupine, allium, and gaura, and a few Magnolia stellata (Star Magnolia) line the walkway—the door on one end and an ivory pillar at the other. The pillar is part of the owner’s collection of ivory structures. They are located throughout the property—some functional, used as benches, and others intended as a simple curiosity, follies enticing visitors through the landscape.
